The unremarkable markable

I realize that I have not updated in a few days... not for lack of time but more that we (dogs and I) have established a string of days with some normalcy and routine to it. That may seem unremarkable but it is markable!

We leash walk at least once a day, 2x on most days. I do this verrry early in the morning and/or verry late at night so that Janey can get a whole bunch of 'successful' walks under her belt. At this time I am not doing formal leash work with her. Even with very little pressure, her leash manners are polite - there's no pulling, most of the time she is a few steps behind or at heel - she seems most comfy like that. But if I walk her with either one of my dogs she does walk ahead of me next to my dogs. (My dogs can walk ahead so long as there is slack on the leads, no pulling.) One night there were a group of teens out walking further down the street and Janey turned into a bucking bronco, wanting to flee. I talked her through it, and she stopped bucking and planted her butt down on the lawn. I sat with her, breathing calmly and talking to her, tried to give her yummy Stella & Chewy's but to no avail, so I just continued to sit there with her. I couldn't get her to make eye contact, her eyes where transfixed in the direction of the teens. After a few minutes I got up calmly and headed the opp direction of where the kids where. Janey got up and followed me, still worried, but also not trying to get away. We continued walking and when she seemed back to 'normal' we headed back inside.

She got her first bath (by me) a few days ago. It was challenging because she was moving around a lot on the lead. I need to do this in a tub or wading pool next time - so that there is some physical 'boundary' to keep her in. She didn't mind the shampooing and she loved being dried with the towel. Soft and shiny. Very huggable.

I'm thinking that Janey realized that only pooping 1x a day in the morning does not make for a restful night, for any dog or any person. So she has been pooping early evening or right before bedtime. No more waking up to 3am whines for a certain dog to poop. That's me you hear cheering!
