Arrival

Jayna was drooly in the car, but not panting. Cindy and I chat in the parking lot, sitting in the SUV alongside Jayna's crate. (Tiny girl. Beautiful.)I would throw quick side glances at her and she would be looking at me or Cindy. Drooly, but her ears weren’t flat against her head – they were moving about listening to us talk. I was expecting lots of "whale eye' as a terrified dog often displays. With J... the fear shuts her down... she 'checks out' so she doesn't appear terrified on the outside.

A peek at Jayna in the driveway of her new foster home.

Got her home in 1hr 20min and had her in the yard. She stayed in the kennel with door open as MB came out, at first they were sniffing around thru the holes and then M stuck her head in for a sniff and that was that. I "helped" Jayna out of her crate. Per Cindy... I had to tilt the crate almost perpendicular to slide J out. I swiftly attached the long line and J immediately walked away to the end of the line but stayed put even after I had let go. MB came back over walked around her and then let her be. We were out here awhile and it was getting hot.

My first real look at Jayna. We were in the backyard and
I had just opened the door of the crate.

I had to pick her up to go upstairs into the sunporch. She stayed in the EXACT position as when I put her down for almost an hour. It was cool in there, the fan was on. I needed to let her be for a bit.

After getting her in the sunporch, I gave water and treats
and gave her some time to just be.

Went to my office but could peek at her from outside my office door. After a good hour she finally lay down. I left water and a couple treats for her. She ate the treats when I wasn't around. Everytime I approached the sunporch I sprinkled treats. If J was laying down, she always would sit up and shrink up.

The sunporch is proving a great middle zone from outside to inside. It gives her space while not being completely secluded from us.

Jayna napped from about 2-4pm… as did myself and my dogs. I needed it. I know that Jayna needed it.
There were children playing in the neighbors yard all afternoon and those noises didn't seem to bother her.

Molly and Ben have been terrific. Around 430 I gave all the dogs dinner. I gave J her meal out on the sunporch. Came in, tossed some treats, put her food bowl a couple feet from her turned around and left. As soon as I shut the slider door and sat on the couch she got up to inspect the bowl. In addition to her usual kibble she got some Nupro "gravy" and a bit of Evanger's Beef & Chicken and a small dollop of tripe, all nicely mixed in a smelling yummy.
